Quinta Anauco – a calm refuge in Caracas

Quinto Anauco, about 4 kilometers from downtown, is an estate built in 1797 for a colonial army officer, Juan Javier Mijares.  It passed through several families and several centuries.   The grounds, surrounded by the big city are quiet and cool under the shade of the trees.  The main house is now restored as a colonial art museum.  There are tour guides who will show you through the grounds for an hour, giving you a detailed summary of the history of the estate, and how the aristocracy lived in colonial Caracas.

  1. Very beautiful photos of an oasis in Caracas.
