Spain’s Venezuelan Expats Join in the World Cup Victory Celebration

As soon as Spain sealed its World Cup victory July 11, fireworks went off all over Caracas.  For days afterward, cars sporting the red and yellow Spanish flag and Viva Espan~a scrawled on the back window could be seen all over town.  Two years ago I was in Caracas when Spain won the European cup, beating Germany 1-0 in the final (just as they did in the semifinal this year).  My brother-in-law Hugo and I were watching the game in a bar.  Right after it was over, we drove down to the nearby Hermandad Gallego, where the Spanish immigrant community and families gather.  The party was already in progress.
